CLINTON, Miss. --- Mississippi College catcher
Carly Crawford has been named the Gulf South Conference Softball Freshman of the Week, it was announced on Tuesday (March 14).
Crawford (Hattiesburg, Miss. / Oak Grove HS) becomes the second Lady Choctaw to earn a GSC weekly award this season after sophomore
Penny Nichols was named the Pitcher of the Week on February 21st.
The rookie hit .444 (4-of-9), inlcuding the first three home runs of her career, in the three-game series at Union University. Crawford went deep in each of the three games, including drilling two two-run shots in MC's two wins. She posted a 1.444 slugging percentage and .545 on-base percentage in the series.
On the season, Crawford leads the team with five doubles and 17 RBI, while ranking third on the team with a .333 batting average. She also ranks 2nd on the team with the three home runs and is fourth with 21 hits.
Crawford and the Lady Choctaws will play host to Alcorn State on Wednesday for a doubleheader at 4:00 p.m. at the MC Softball Complex. MC will then travel to Memphis for a three-game set with Christian Brothers this weekend.

Mississippi College is a private Christian university located in Clinton, Mississippi with an enrollment of over 5,000 students. MC is recently finished their transition process back to NCAA Division II and the Gulf South Conference and will be competing for conference and national championships in the 2016-17 academic year.
