#7 Moment from 2016-17 Season: Men's Tennis Victory Over UWA in GSC Tournament

CLINTON, Miss. --- The 2016-17 Mississippi College athletics season was full of extraordinary moments both on and off the fields of play.

In June of 2016, the NCAA informed MC that they had completed the transition process and would be full members of Division II and the Gulf South Conference, earning the right play for conference and national championships.

With that as the backdrop, the Office of Athletic Communications put together a committee to vote on and compose a list of the "Top 10 Choctaw Moments" on the court, field and track.

While there were many moments this past year that had the Mississippi College alumni, students and fans proud of their Choctaws and Lady Choctaws, here's the list of the absolute best.

The postseason marks a special time of year in which teams are rewarded for their regular season efforts with the opportunity to pursue a championship, and is often times responsible for the most memorable and remarkable finishes during the year.

On April 20, the Mississippi College men's tennis team completed a thrilling come-from-behind victory to knock off #41 ranked West Alabama 5-4 in the opening round of the Gulf South Conference Postseason Tennis Tournament.

The Choctaws trailed 2-1 upon the completion of doubles, needing victories in four of the six singles sets to move onto the next round of the tournament.

Joan Valy, Max Nilges, and Marcos Rocca all defeated their opponents in singles to tie the match at 4-4.

Junior Lucio Menezes sealed the deal for the Choctaws, as he bested his opponent in a dramatic three-set bout at the number two spot. Menezes dropped the first set 4-6, then took the next two sets with a 6-3 victory, and a 7-5 third-set win that came down to the final point of the match.

The Choctaws compiled a record of 11-10 in their first season of full competition in the Gulf South Conference, including a mark of 5-4 against GSC opponents.

Menezes, Rocca and Valy were all named to the GSC All-Conference Second Team as a result of their efforts during the season. Rocca and Valy, who put together a record of 15-3 as a double's team, finished the season as the number 20th-ranked double's duo in the International Tennis Association's national rankings.
