CLINTON, Miss. --- Mississippi College athletic director
Mike Jones, along with head coach
Brooke O'Hair, have announced the hiring of
Leigh Streetman as softball assistant coach, it was announced on Wednesday (July 26).
"We are extremely excited to add Leigh to our coaching staff," said O'Hair. "She's a proven winner that will bring a wealth of experience on both the playing and coaching side of the game. She's known for developing pitchers both physically and mentally. I'm anxious to see what she will do with our pitching staff."
Pronounced "LEE-uh", Streetman was a four-year starting pitcher (2011-14) at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), where she holds school career records for appearances (144), saves (13) and batting average against (.209), while also sharing the school record with 58 career victories. Her 2.18 career ERA ranks in the top five in school history.
The Hueytown, Ala. native also holds single-season records for ERA (1.34 in 2011) and  saves (7 in 2011) and has the program's top two marks in batting average against (.190 in 2013, .192 in 2011).
Following her playing career, Streetman spent two seasons as a volunteer pitching coach, helping lead the Blazers to five straight trips to the NCAA Tournament. She then spent last season at Southern Union Community College as a volunteer.
"First, I would like to thank Brooke (O'Hair) for allowing me this opportunity to coach at the collegiate level," said Streetman. "I am ecstatic to see what this school, town and program have to offer me. I cannot wait to meet the players and get to work so we can pursue a national championship. I look forward to my first year and season as a Lady Choctaw."
Streetman replaces Kim Mason, who spent the last four seasons as the Lady Choctaws' pitching coach (2014-17). Following a stellar four-year playing career, Mason helped lead MC to a 2016 NCCAA national championship and the 2017 Gulf South Conference Tournament title.
