CLINTON, Miss. --- Mississippi College senior Liza Wise has been named Gulf South Conference Women's Soccer Defender of the Week, it was announced on Tuesday (Oct. 15).

Wise (Tupelo, Miss.) becomes the fourth different Lady Choctaw to earn a GSC weekly honor this season and the first to be recognized as Defender of the Week.

The Lady Choctaws picked up a pair of home wins in conference play last weekend, shutting out both Union (2-0) and Christian Brothers (1-0) at Robert P. Longabaugh Field. Over the two victories, MC allowed just seven total shots with only two coming on goal.

Wise paced a defense that produced their second and third shutouts of the season. For the year, the Lady Choctaws have given up more than one goal just one time in nine matches.

The former Tupelo High School standout scored a goal in the win over Shorter and had assists in victories against West Alabama and UAH.

The Lady Choctaws are ranked #9 in the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 and have won eight straight matches since a season-opening loss to Saint Leo.

Wise and MC will hit the road this weekend to face Valdosta State (Oct. 18) and West Georgia (Oct. 20) in a couple of GSC contests.
