PITTSBURG, Kansas --- The Mississippi College indoor women's track and field team opened the 2021 season at the Crimson and Gold Invitational, hosted by Pittsburg State University, with a strong performance. A total of six collegiate, indoor, personal bests were set over the course of the day along with an indoor record being set.

Jazmin Hernandez helped open the day as she reset the program's indoor school record in the 5000 meters with a time of 17:50.56. It was one of two silver-medal finishes for the Georgetown, Texas, native on the day as she came in second in the 3000 meters with a time of 10:26.31. Both times were indoor bests for the junior.

Mississippi College placed four ladies in the top 10 in the 5000 meters.
Madeline Campbell took bronze in the event with a time of 18:49.89 while
Emily Berry just missed placing with a time of 19:17.15 to take fourth.
Ava Dickerson posted an indoor best with a time of 20:27.30 to take seventh.

Tytavia Hardy added to the indoor-bests list with a distance of 5.58 meters in the long jump to place second. She also added a fourth-place finish in the high jump with a distance of 1.58 meters and was seventh in the 60 meters with a time of 8.04.

Kiara Vance notched indoor bests in the weight throw and shot put. The Clinton, Miss., native recorded a distance of 14.09 meters in the weight throw to take fifth and added a distance of 11.36 meters in the shot to claim sixth.

Emma Langley claimed a fourth-place finish in the 800 meters with a time of 2:19.75 and clocked a time of 5:14.11 in the mile to finish sixth.
Ezra McCaw finished sixth in the 60 meters with a time of 7.92 while
Kathy Hammond joined Hernandez in the 3000 meters as she placed fifth with a time of 10:37.18.

Mississippi College returns to action on Friday, Jan. 22 as it travels to Birmingham, Ala., for the first of two Samford Invitationals. The two-day event concludes at the Birmingham Crossplex on Saturday, Jan. 23.
