CLINTON, Miss. --- Mississippi College is the host of the 2021 Gulf South Conference Cross Country Championships that are slated for Saturday, Oct. 23 at Choctaw Trails. The women's 5K race is scheduled to start at 9 a.m. with the men's 8K event penciled in for 10 a.m.

Both Choctaw program are in search of its first GSC title entering the Championships. The MC men finished fourth last season in Huntsville, Ala., while the Choctaw ladies posted their best finish at the GSC's with a second-place finish.

Five ladies earned All-GSC laurels led by
Jazmin Hernandez and
Madeline Campbell with first team honors. Hernandez finished fifth overall followed by Campbell in 10th.
Kathy Hammond,
Emma Langley and former Choctaw
McKenzie Hargrove each finished in the top 20 to grab second-team accolades.
Evan del Rio was the lone MC guy to garnered all-conference recognition as he finished in the sixth place.

Mississippi College has maintained a successful campaign this fall. The men are ranked 17th nationally and third in the South Region in the latest United States Track and Field and Cross-Country Coaches Association Polls. The MC women are fourth in the region.

Gabe Poulin,
Adam Gomez,
Christian Balcer and
Hunter Kurz have helped lead the men this season. The quartet has combined to claim three GSC Male Performers of the Week awards and three Male Freshmen accolades.

Hernandez,
Josie Whipp along with
Ava Dickerson and
Caroline Perry have captured a majority of the conference's weekly awards this season. Hernandez has a pair of top female performances in the league while Whipp has earned three female freshman honors.

The University of Alabama in Huntsville holds the most conference titles, including the last two on the men's side and six overall on the men's side. Prior to the Chargers back-to-back championships, Lee (Tenn.) University ripped off four consecutive. Former GSC members Troy University (16) and Harding University (10) lead the way with total conference titles.

The Lady Flames of Lee have staked claim to the last four conference crowns, but remain second behind UAH's five total among active members. Harding leads the way with eight GSC crowns.
