MONTEVALLO, Ala. --- Gabe Poulin,
A.B. Williams and
Kiara Vance garnered All-Gulf South Conference honors as the Mississippi College men and women's outdoor track and field teams opened the first day of the GSC Championships on Thursday, April 29 at the University of Montevallo.

Poulin walked away with first team laurels as he won the men's 10,000 meters with a time of 31:01.38. Williams took second team honors in the men's discus with a toss of 46.31 meters. The toss just missed his season-best of 46.67 meters at the Lee University Flames Invitational earlier this month. Williams finished fifth in the hammer with a season-high throw of 44.80 meters. Vance gathered the first all-conference accolade for the Lady Choctaws as she finished second in the discus with a throw of 38.16 meters and gained second team honors.

Al Ferrill turned in a pair of bronze-medal finishes during the opening day. The Tickfaw, La., native posted a season-best toss of 46.14 meters in the discus to finish behind Williams and added a throw of 48.42 meters in the hammer. Teammate
Damon Wright finished eighth in the hammer with a 38.17-meter throw.

Mason Quimby finished just off the medal stand on the day. Quimby posted a PR height of 1.89 meters in the men's high jump.

Madeline Campbell and
Rachel Faulk each finished in the top 10 of the women's 10,000 meters. Campbell took sixth with a time of 38:18.66. Faulk took 10th in the event as she turned in a time of 43:54.60.

Vance logged a PR throw of 38.98 meters in the hammer as she finished eighth.
Autumn Frost finished 13th in the discus with a toss of 28.40 meters.

Adam Gomez rounded out the competition for the Choctaws as he finished 11th in the 10,000 meters with a time of 33:55.74.
The Choctaws sit second in the team standings after the first day with 39.5 points. The Lady Choctaws are fifth with 12 points.

The second day of the GSC Championships are scheduled to start tomorrow with the men's shot put, men's triple jump and women's high jump at 3 p.m.
