FLORENCE, Ala. --- The Mississippi College women's cross country team posted its second team win of the season as it staked claim to the University of North Alabama Invitational on Friday, Sept. 10.
Jazmin Hernandez grabbed gold in the race to lead the Choctaws.

Hernandez was one of four MC runners to finish in the top 10 of the race. The Georgetown, Texas, native posted a time of 18:10.86 to take the top individual honor as she bested Danielle Wright of Murray State University and Janeth Jepkirui from North Alabama. Hernandez's time is 10 seconds off her career-best time.

Madeline Campbell finished fourth at the Invite with a time of 18:39.15 while
Josie Whipp posted a career-best time of 18:41.01 in fifth place. Whipp surpassed her previous best of 19:56.6 set at the opener in Clinton, Miss., last weekend.

Kathy Hammond finished in seventh place, rounding out the top 10 finishers for MC, with a time of 18:47.99.

Emma Langley turned in a time of 19:04.48 to take 14th in the race and was followed by
Breann Bell and
Norma Gutierrez. Bell finished 16th with a time of 19:09.35 while Gutierrez was 17th with a time of 19:11.02.

Mississippi College outlasted a field of four Division I programs (Murray State, 2nd; North Alabama, 3rd; Memphis, 4th; and Alabama A&M, 7th) and three fellow members of the Gulf South Conference (West Florida, 6th; West Alabama, 9th; and Delta State 10th).

Mississippi College returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 18 as it travels to Missouri Southern Stampede.
