LAKE CHARLES, La. --- The Mississippi College men's cross country team turned in a fifth-place finish at the Four-Mile Lake Charles Toyota Cowboy Stampede hosted by McNeese University on Saturday, Sept. 25. The Choctaws were the only non-Division I team in the race.

Adam Gomez led the way for Mississippi College. Gomez turned in a 17th-place finish as he logged a time of 20:06.8.
Jacob Britt clocked a time of 20:30.5 in 21st while
Preston Speed was 24th with a time of 20:38.9.
Hollis Johnson finished one spot back of Speed with a time of 20:43.5.

Jake Russell posted a time of 21:00.9 and finished in 28th. Elijah Araya finished one second back of Russell in 30th.
Wesley Gibbs rounded out the seventh-scoring spot for the Choctaws in 33rd. Gibbs recorded a time of 21:13.6.

Lamar University took the top spot in the race with a team score of 32 points. The Cardinals claimed three of the top five spots among the individuals and four of the top 10. George Wheeler paced the Red and White with a time of 18:43.4 while Harry Halford was second with a time of 19:05.2.

The host Cowboys finished second with a score of 44 while Houston Baptist University finished third with 72 points.

The University of Houston's Brandon Seagraves finished third among the individuals with a time of 19:07.6.

Mississippi College returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 2 as it travels to Louisville, Ky., for the Greater Louisville Classic.
