BIRMINGHAM, Ala.--- The Mississippi College men's soccer team picked up several individual accolades, plus All-GSC honors, as announced by Gulf South Conference on Friday afternoon.
Joshua Davies was named GSC Defensive Player of the Year and Felix Ewald was also named GSC Freshman of the Year. Noah Wagner also joined Davies on the 1st team All-GSC list. Ewald was a 2nd team All-GSC selection.
Joshua Davies (a junior out of Southampton, England), was the leader of a strong defensive unit this season for MC. Davies led the team with 1,218 minutes played on the season (almost 200 more minutes than anyone else). He also played the full 90 minutes in 11 matches this season. Davies also scored 2 goals on the season. This is the 2nd year in a row that the men's soccer program has picked up Defensive Player of the Year honors as Davies joins
Aurele Chemin who won the award last season. Davies was a 2nd team All-GSC selection both in 2019 and 2021.
Felix Ewald (a freshman out of Berlin, Germany) scored 6 goals for the Choctaws in his debut season in Clinton. He also added an assist as well. His 13 points on the season was the 2nd most on the squad. Ewald also went 2/2 on the season in Penalty Kicks, tied for the most efficient conversion rate on the team. Ewald was one of three players on the team to play in every match this season. Ewald was a two-time GSC Freshman of the Week this year this year as picked up the honors on September 6th and September 20th. This is the first GSC Freshman of the Year award in MC men's soccer program history.
Noah Wagner (a senior out of Corpus Christi, Texas), led the team (and tied for the conference lead) in goals with 10. Wagner was also the quickest player in the conference to reach the double-digit goal mark this season. 8 of Wagner's goals came in conference play, which also tied for the most in the GSC. Wagner picked up 20 points on the season, which was 2nd most in the conference. Wagner started every match this season for MC, the only player on the team to do so. He was also named GSC Offensive Player of the Week on September 20th. Wagner was a 2nd team All-GSC selection a year ago.
The Choctaws will now head into the GSC tournament this weekend. MC is the 6-seed in the tournament, and will take on 3-seed West Alabama on Sunday evening (Oct. 30th) at 6:00 pm in Livingston.
