KANSAS CITY, Mo.--- Three Mississippi College players earned first team All-South Region honors as announced by the United Soccer Coaches association on Tuesday, Nov. 29th.
Beatrice Currie,
Erin Hederman, and
Emma Young all earned All-Region honors.
Beatrice Currie (a graduate student forward from Nova Scotia, Canada) picks up her first 1st team All-Region honor, and second overall All-Region selection of her MC career (she was a 2nd team USC All-South Region selection a year ago). Currie is now a unanimous 1st team All-South Region selection as she also earned the same honor from the Division II Conference Commissioner's Association (D2CCA). This season, Currie scored 16 goals for MC, leading the way for the squad. The 16 goals were also third most in the Gulf South Conference this season. She also added 6 assists, which was third on the team. Her 38 points on the season was second on MC, and third in the GSC. Currie was also named 1st team All-GSC earlier this season, as well as being named a member of the GSC All-Tournament team.
Erin Hederman (a junior forward out of Jackson, Miss.) is also now a unanimous 1st team All-South Region selection. Hederman scored 15 goals on the season (tied for fourth in the GSC). She also added 11 assists (second most in the GSC) to her tally. She was one of two players in the GSC to end up with double-digit goals and double-digit assists on the season. She was the only one to do it in the regular season. Hederman's 41 points on the season also led the team and was second most in the conference. Hederman previously was a 2nd team USC All-South Region selection in 2019. She was also named 1st team All-GSC earlier this year, and was also named the Most Outstanding Player of the GSC tournament (while helping lead MC to the tournament title).
Emma Young (a junior defender out of Lafayette, La.) picks up USC 1st team All-Region honors for the second straight season. Young was also a USC All-America selection last season as well. She helped lead a strong backline this season for MC, and helped lead the team to a NCAA tournament berth this year. Young scored one goal on the year, and also added an assist. She played 1,531 minutes on the year (third most on the team). Young was a 2nd team All-South Region selection according to the D2CCA this year. She was also a 1st team All-GSC selection, and was a member of the GSC tournament All-Tournament team.
The United Soccer Coaches All-America teams will be announced on Thursday, Dec. 1st.
