CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College women's basketball team fell in Gulf South Conference action to the University of West Alabama on Friday, Dec. 9. MC moves to 2-8 overall and 1-6 in conference play. The Tigers improved to 6-2 and 5-1 in league play.

Ava Knoedl paced the squad in the scoring column and on the glass with 15 points and five rebounds. The point total resets her previous season-high of 11 points scored against AUM last week. The five boards are second most by the freshman this season and one off her season-best of six also against the Warhawks.

The Choctaw shot 22. 8 percent from the field, including a clip of 22.2 from the 3-point line. They connected on 8-of-12 from the free-throw line for 66.7 percent. The squad grabbed 27 rebounds in the effort.

UWA led from start to finish in the contest as it the opening bucket of the game and never looked back. The Blue and Gold totaled 18 points in the opening 20 minutes of play, but found itself trailing 34-18 at the intermission. The Red and White expanded its lead during the second half as it outscored the homestanding Choctaw 39-20 over the final 20 minutes.

MC's largest scoring run of the game came on as it used a 7-0 spurt to cut the deficit to 12-9 with 2:25 left in the opening quarter. UWA opened the contest with a 12-2.

A trio of Tigers led the way for the unit led by Bria Dent with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Zoe Watts added 17 points while Maryanne Logsdon supplied 13 points. Jala Williams joined Dent in double-figure boards with a team-best 11. The Red and White shot 49.1 percent from the floor and knocked down 9-of-15 from behind the arc for 60.0 percent. UWA also grabbed 45 rebounds.

Mississippi College returns to action on Sunday, Dec. 11 as it plays host to the University of Alabama in Huntsville. Tip is at 2 p.m.
