Choctaws Host GSC Outdoor Championships

CLINTON, Miss. --- As the Mississippi College campus ramps up for the end of the Spring semester, James E. Parkman Track and Robinson-Hale Stadium awaits eight institutions from the across the southeast region as MC prepares to host the 2022 Gulf South Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
 
The three-day event brings the best of the GSC to the Clinton-based campus starting Thursday, May 5 at 12 p.m. central and running through Saturday, May 7. The decathlon and heptathlon kick start the events.
 
Fans can follow the action via GoChoctaws.com and GSCSports.org. Flosports.com will broadcast the event with Will Brown providing play-by-play and former Choctaw head coach Butch Ard as color analyst.
 
The MC men search for their fourth GSC title in program history and first since 1979. The Choctaws collected back-to-back crowns in 1978-79 and have finished as high as third since returning to the conference and Division II.
 
The Choctaw women seek their first-ever GSC crown. The program's best finish came last season as it placed fourth at the University of Montevallo.
 
Fabio Palmieri looks to improve upon his debut showing in 2021. The Cape Town, West Cape, South Africa, native recorded four All-GSC accolades last season in Montevallo, Ala. The sophomore has booked NCAA provisional times in the men's 100 and 200 meters this season. His time of 21.10 in the 200 stands 21st in the nation. He clocked a time of 10.49 in the 100 meters, which is 34th nationally. Both marks sit second in the GSC.
 
Tytavia Hardy headlines the women's roster. The Pensacola, Fla., product has registered four all-conference accolades since bursting onto the scene 2019. Her All-GSC accolades rank second in program history – one shy of former Choctaw standout Kiana Grant's five. The junior looks to add to her list of accomplishments as last season she was named the Most Outstanding Field Performer.  Hardy has a trio of NCAA provo marks this season topped by her time of 13.88 in the 100 hurdles. The mark sits 11th nationally. She also holds the third-best distances in the conference in the long jump (5.83m) and triple jump (12.01m).
