CLINTON, Miss. --- Coming off a Gulf South Conference Tournament berth, Mississippi College women's basketball head coach,
Greg Long, and the MC Athletic Department announce its 2022-23 slate on Monday, Sept. 12.
"It can't get here fast enough," Long said. "As a competitor, you are always ready to get back to work and into competition. We had a strong finish to last season that helped us have success we have not had in years with a winning season. I'm eager to build up on that success and see what this new group of players can add to the program."
The schedule features 24-GSC contests with home-and-home outings against each member of the 12-team conference. The Choctaws open conference play on Thursday, Nov. 17 in a road contest in Jackson, Tenn., against Union University.
"This conference is already tough and has been for years now. The new 24-conference game format will make things exciting for not only the players and coaches, but I think it adds something for the fans as well. This conference schedule will be tougher than its ever been in league history," said Long. "We have a tough non-conference slate that will help prepare us for league play."

The Navy and Gold open its GSC, home slate on Saturday, Nov. 26 as it welcomes the University of West Florida to A.E. Wood Coliseum. The game is sandwiched during the Choctaws' longest, homestand of the season as the squad faces Valdosta State University two days later in Clinton. The homestand opens with a non-conference meeting with Ouachita Baptist University on Tuesday, Nov. 22 – the final non-conference of the season.
Â
Long, who enters his third season at the helm of the program and fourth as a collegiate head coach, opens the regular season on Friday, Nov. 11 as he takes the squad to Cleveland, Tenn., for the GSC-SIAC Crossover for the second consecutive campaign. MC opens the two-day, four-team event against LeMoyne-Owen College on Friday. The squad faces Tuskegee University the following day to wrap up the event. MC split the two affairs last season in Tuskegee.
Â
The Choctaws recorded its first winning season since the 2011-12 campaign last season with a 15-13 mark and advanced to the quarterfinals of the conference tournament. The 15 wins are the most since the program garnered 16 victories during the 2011-12 season.
Â
The 15 victories last season are the third most in the program's Division II history while the 10 conference wins match the most by the program – also in its DII days. The 1991-92 squad captured 18 wins with six coming in GSC play. The 1994-85 edition secured 17 wins with eight in conference action.
