Women's Hoops Topped at West Florida

PENSACOLA, Fla. --- The Mississippi College women's basketball team dropped a 75-51 decision in Gulf South Conference at the University of West Florida on Saturday, Jan. 21. MC moved to 4-14 on the season and 3-13 in the conference while the Argonauts improved to 13-5 and 13-3.

The outcome gives UWF its eight straight on its home floor in the series and derailed a season sweep possibility for the Choctaw. MC won the first meeting of the season, 55-51, in Jackson, Miss., on Nov. 26.

Kyiah Julian and Ava Knoedl paced the squad in scoring. Julian collected her 10th game this season in double figures and the 30th of her career with a team-best 14 points. Knoedl added 11 points for her sixth game in double figures on the campaign. Dezirae King led the team on the glass with five rebounds and supplied a team-leading three assists, which tied her with Julian.

MC managed a 27.9 clip from the floor and converted 13 of 17 from the charity stripe for 76.5 percent. The team also pulled down 33 rebounds.

Jaclyn Jarnot and Zoe Piller provided double-doubles to help lead UWF in the outcome. Piller posted 16 points and a team-best 19 rebounds while Jarnot led the team in scoring with 17 points and 10 boards. The Blue and Green shot 45.6 percent from the field and was 6-for-10 from the free-throw line. The squad grabbed 53 rebounds with three players in double digits.

The Argos jumped out early as it held a 20-5 lead after the first 10 minutes of action and never looked back in the contest as it held a 17-point lead at the intermission. They registered their largest lead of the game with 2:33 left in the third period as Jenna Gallimore scored on a driving layup off an assist from Jayden Langford.

The Blue and Gold posted its largest scoring run of the game during the final period as Knoedl knocked down a 3-pointer 15 seconds in. Julian started the 7-0 run with four free throws to cap the third quarter.

Mississippi College returns to A.E. Wood Coliseum on Thursday, Jan. 26 as it faces Auburn University at Montgomery. Tip is set for 5:30 p.m.
