Track & Field Grab 16 Wins, 15 Top-10 Marks at Mike McMillan Invitational

CLINTON, Miss. -- The Mississippi College Track and Field Team hosted the Mike McMillan Twilight meet on Friday, April 26th, marking their final home meet of the season. The competition was unique, and the seniors had a great send-off. Numerous event wins, NCAA DII Provisional performances, and top 10 marks made the competition an incredible day.

School Records:
Kennedy Thompson broke the school record in the women's discus, previously held at number 5 on the Mississippi College Track and Field rankings. With a whopping throw of 41.14m, Thompson surpassed her previous best by over 3 meters and won the event. Her new mark tied her for the third place in the GSC.

Top 10 Marks:
The men's field events saw many new top 10 marks, including Christopher Butler who jumped a PR of 7.13m in the men's long jump, placing him at number 9 on the Choctaw top 10 list. Freshman Brodie Ezell threw the discus for a mark of 46.82m, which gave him a new number 6 all-time. He also improved his hammer, throwing 45.97m, which placed him at a new number 8.

Hannah Jackson improved her personal record in the women's long jump by 0.39 meters with a 5.35m jump, taking her from number 10 to 5 on the Mississippi College Top-10 list. Sakari Faulkner made a great throw of 38.95m in the discus, moving her to number 5 all-time. Rashanna Thorne also threw the hammer 43.90m, improving on her number 8 mark, and propelling herself to a new number 4.

The men's track events saw the team of Oliver Ollesch, Robert Grames, Niklas Klei, and Grayson Foster run 41.26 in the 4x100m relay for a new number 7 and the overall win. The men's 4x400 also competed, running 3:08.38, which was an NCAA qualifying mark, a new number 3 all-time, and a new GSC No. 1. Additionally, the 4x400m quarter is ranked third in the nation.

The women's track events gave several top 10 marks. The team of Alana Green, Hilary Udechukwu, Katie Gates, and Livia Fischer ran a 47.62 second 4x100m relay, placing them at number 2 all-time in the top 10 list and the event win. Taylor Benoit ran 4:31.43 in the Women's 1500m run for a new No. 2 all-time, while Alana Green also improved her rankings of No. 3 in the 100m and No. 2 in the 200m, running 11.86 and 24.48, respectively.

Katie Gates and Madison Flugence ran 14.76 and 14.72, respectively, in the 100m hurdles, with Flugence jumping to No. 4 and Gates at No. 5. In the Women's 800m, Benoit ran 2:14.25, grabbing a No. 5 all-time mark, and teammate Leslie Baxter ran 2:16.25, improving on her No. 6 mark on the program Top-10 list.

Event Wins:
On the men's field side, Chris Butler won the men's long jump with his impressive 7.13m jump. Benjamin Woolhouse won the event in the Pole Vault, clearing 4.8m. Bryan Puckett won the shot put with an event win mark of 15.2m. Brodie Ezell's new Discus number 6 was good enough for the event win. Jake Keese won with a massive 53.14m throw. Lastly, Matthew Coleman continued his unbeaten streak in the javelin, throwing 61.63m.

Ryleigh Borbash won the Women's high jump with an impressive leap of 1.5m, and Nicole Morris won two events, one in shot put and the other in hammer throw. Morris threw 10.95m in the shot put and 44.09m in the hammer for two decisive victories. Sakari Faulkner's school record in the women's hammer throw was good enough to secure her the final home victory of the season.

Oliver Ollesch won the men's 400m Hurdles in an event, running 54.93. Brandon Williams won the men's 800m with a time of 1:53.01. Lastly, the men's NCAA qualifying 4x400m won in one of the most energetic races in MC's history.

The women's track events saw Lauren Wallace win the 1500m with a breathtaking performance of 4:27.01, and Alana Green won the 200m with her stunning 24.48.
