CLINTON, Miss. --- Building off a Gulf South Conference Tournament berth a season ago, the
Greg Long and Mississippi College women's basketball program announce the 2024-25 basketball slate.
MC made the conference tournament for the second time under Long and the third time for the program since its return to Division II.
"It is another challenging test for our team," said fifth-year Choctaw head coach Long. "We will face some very good teams once again within conference, but we also added a number of regional games."
Among the 28 game slate, five opponents made the NCAA postseason last season, including four from the Gulf South Conference. Valdosta State University, Lee University, Union University and newcomer, Trevecca Nazarene University each reached regional play and will see the Blue and Gold twice this season as part of the 22-game, home-and-home, conference ledger. Great American Conference member, Henderson State University, also saw postseason action last season and will make a trip to A.E. Wood Coliseum in November.
Fans have opportunities to take in action in Clinton, as there are 18 home contests on the book this season. MC opens the campaign on Nov. 8 as it hosts LeMoyne-Owen College in the opening contest of the GSC-SIAC Crossover before facing Lane College the following morning inside the Coliseum.
"We have more opportunities to play in front of home fans so it is important that we take advantage of those games," Long commented, following a 7-3 record last season on its home floor.
Following the Crossover dates, the Blue and Gold host in-state foes Belhaven University (Nov. 14) and Tougaloo College (Nov. 19) before hitting the road for its first road outing at Spring Hill College (Nov. 21).
GSC action begins on Dec. 5 as the squad travels to Memphis, Tenn., for a contest against Christian Brothers University. The affair is the first of two in the Volunteer State to start league play as the team takes on Union on Dec. 7. MC opens its home conference slate on Dec. 14 against Montevallo before welcoming Auburn University at Montgomery on Dec. 16.
The Choctaw travel to Delta State University on Jan. 18 before taking on the Lady Statesmen in Clinton on Mar 1 to close out the regular season. MC swept the Green and White last season.
The opening round of the GSC Tournament is marked for Mar. 4 with the semifinals and championship game on Mar. 8 and 9 inside the Pete Hanna Center on the campus of Samford University. NCAA Regional play begins on Mar. 14 with the NCAA Division II Women's Basketball Finals marked for Mar. 24 in Pittsburgh, Pa.
Mississippi College opens action on Oct. 30 with an exhibition at the University of Southern Mississippi at 6 p.m.
