CLINTON, Miss. --- No. 21 MC baseball edged William Carey, 8-6, on Tuesday, Feb. 10 at Frierson Field. The Choctaws (4-4) capitalized on nine walks and three hit batters to generate their offense, scoring six of their eight runs in the sixth and seventh innings.
Â
The eight runs marked a season-high for the squad as it snapped a three-game slide on the campaign and registered its fifth consecutive victory over its neighbors from Hattiesburg.
Â
Ty Murphy and
Will Langston notched multiple-hit performances to lead the way while Murphy drove in a season-best three RBI to pace the squad.
Jake LaRocca added a multi-RBI effort with two of his own as MC totaled a season benchmark with seven RBI.
Â
After the Crusaders took a three-run lead in the top of the sixth, MC rallied with four runs in the bottom half of the frame to take its first lead of the contest. LaRocca's RBI double and
Kelby Jordan's RBI single narrowed the gap. Murphy's groundout brought home another run, knotting the contest at 5-all, and
Cade Gadman's RBI single placed the Blue and Gold in front 6-5.
Â
William Carey forced the third deadlock of the game in the top of the seventh, but the Choctaws regained the lead in the home half of the inning with a pair of runs as Langston scored on a Murphy single to left and
JT Thigpen crossed the dish as the ball ricocheted away from the Crusaders' third baseman, giving MC a two-run cushion.
Â
Seven MC hurlers saw action in the midweek affair as
Connor Pittman (1-2) grabbed his first victory of the season, going one inning in relief, allowing one run on a hit with a strikeout to his ledger.
Dylan Cope (1) recorded his first save, pitching the two final two frames, striking out two.
Â
The Choctaws return to action on Friday, Feb. 13 as they open Gulf South Conference play on the road against West Alabama. First pitch is 5 p.m.
