LIVINGSTON, Ala. --- MC baseball fell to West Alabama, 2-1, on Saturday, Feb. 14. The Choctaws (4-7, 0-3 Gulf South Conference) managed only four hits in the contest, with their lone run coming in the sixth inning.

The Tigers (10-0, 3-0 GSC) plated two runs in the first three innings and held on for the sweep.

Hayes Alford singled up the middle in the third inning, scoring Hudson Washburn to grab the two-run lead. Alford played a part in both Red and White runs as he scored on a Wwayne Wilkerson double to right center to start the scoring.

The Blue and Gold responded in the sixth inning.
Nick Slonaker doubled to left field and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by
JT Thigpen and later scored on a
Will Langston sac fly, closing the gap to 2-1, but the Choctaws couldn't add more.

In the eighth inning,
Ty Murphy provided a spark for MC with a double down the left field line, but the opportunity squandered as the team was unable to bring him home. The Choctaws threatened in the ninth inning with the bases loaded, as
Carter Wells drew, but the Tigers held firm, closing out the game with a strikeout and ground out to conclude the affair.

Coby Gollott (1-1) took the loss, pitching seven innings, fanning a season-high seven strikeouts. He allowed both run on seven hits paired with three walks.
Will Daniel tossed the final frame, sitting down a pair and allowing one hit.

Blake Westry (1-0) notched his first win of the season, going five innings in the start. He gave up one hit, a walk and struck out two. Tyler Pierce (1) picked up the save, tossing the final two-thirds of an inning with a strikeout and walk.

MC returns to action on Tuesday, Feb. 17 as it hosts Henderson State in non-conference action. First pitch is 2 p.m.
