CLINTON, Miss. --- MC baseball wrapped up its first sweep of the season, rallying to top Montevallo, 4-3, in 10 innings at Frierson Field inside Dickins-Scoper Stadium on Saturday, Feb. 21. The Choctaws improve to 7-8 on the season and stand even at 3-3 in Gulf South Conference action. UM falls to 5-9 and 1-5 in league play.Â

MC loaded the bases in the bottom of the 10th behind a pair of walks and a hit by pitch with no outs setting up a second walk-off end on the weekend.
Ty Murphy drove in the winning run with an infield single that scored
Kelby Jordan, Murphy's lone hit of the contest.

"Super proud of our guys responding from last weekend, getting swept in West Alabama," said head coach
Jeremy Haworth. "Proud of our pitching staff. They did a really good job of throwing a ton of strikes and holding their running game."

Alex Johnson and
Cade Gadman notched multiple-hit efforts in the come-from-behind victory as Gadman added a multi-RBI effort driving in a pair. It marks the third consecutive multi-hit performance for Thigpen.

Gadman got the Choctaws on the board in the second inning with an RBI-single down the left field line and later tied the contest in the sixth with a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring Murphy.

"We're showing glimpses offensively of what we can do," Haworth stated. "We just got to stay consistent."

Kamryn Carlisle (2-1) picked up his second victory of the season, tossing a third of an inning in relief, but holding the Falcons off the bases.
Coby Gollott pitched a gem in the start, striking out eight, allowing just one earned run on five hits and a walk in six frames.
Will Daniel struck out two and walked four in 3.2 innings in middle relief.

Trailing 2-0 through three innings, UM knotted the contest and took its first lead of the game in the fifth, scoring two runs as Jack Fitzgerald doubled down the left field line to score Joel Chandler, who started the inning with a single and set up Caleb Karll to score on an error. Fitzgerald paced the Purple and Gold at the dish with two hits and a pair of RBI.

Bodie Vail (1-1) took the loss, tossing 3.1 innings in relief. He allowed one run on a hit and walked two.
