Mississippi College Falls To West Alabama 73-53

LIVINGSTON, Ala. — Mississippi College fell to West Alabama 73-53 at Pruitt Hall on Thursday night. MC managed to secure 34 rebounds, matching West Ala.'s total, but could not overcome their opponent's scoring advantage.

The first half saw West Alabama establish control early with a 9-0 run, highlighted by a fastbreak 3-pointer from Elliot Tulip at 18:55. The Choctaws struggled with turnovers, committing eight, including a steal by Rasean Frederick at 19:02, which led to another scoring opportunity for the home team. BJ Brown Jr. was a standout performer, contributing 15 points, including a jumper with 29 seconds left to help West Alabama carry a 42-27 lead into the break. The Blue and Gold's Avaughn Johnson and Phil Nelson combined for 17 points, but their efforts were not enough to close the gap in the first half.

West Alabama maintained control in the second half, despite a persistent effort from MC. Nelson hit two 3-pointers for the visitors, including one at 14:54 that trimmed the deficit to 13 points. However, Frederick led West Alabama with crucial plays, including a layup and a free throw at the 9:29 mark, which helped sustain their lead. Despite a late push from The Blue and Gold, highlighted by John Ridger's jumper with 41 seconds left, West Alabama secured a 73-53 victory.
