MONTGOMERY, Ala. --- Mississippi College baseball picked up its fifth straight win, knocking off Auburn University at Montgomery, 6-4, on Friday, March 6 at QV Lowe Field. MC, which garnered its first road decision of the season, improved to 12-9 and 7-3 in Gulf South Conference action. AUM fell to 5-14 and 1-9 in the league.
Â
This victory marked the Choctaws' fourth consecutive win in the series, and their 10th all-time. Additionally, it was the first win in Montgomery since Feb. 23, 2024, when they achieved a 13-2 run-rule victory.
Â
Will Langston recorded a season-high three RBI and two hits, including a double, to lead the Choctaws' offensive efforts. It is the fifth multiple-hit contest of the season for the Vestavia Hills, Ala., native and his second multi-RBI effort.
Â
JT Thigpen added two RBI, marking the fifth consecutive game in which he recorded at least two runs batted in, and scored a run with a hit and a double. Tyrus Williams and
Ty Murphy added multi-hit performances as well – the fourth for Williams and seventh for Murphy this season.
Â
Caleb Peterson (3-2) pitched 7.2 innings, striking out nine batters while allowing just two earned runs. He allowed just four hits, two earned runs and walked two.
Dylan Cope entered in relief, pitching 1.1 innings and allowing two earned runs on one.
Â
MC jumped out to an early lead and held off a late rally.
Cade Gadman sparked the Choctaws in the first inning with a single and stolen base before scoring on Langston's RBI double to left center. The Blue and Gold added another run in the third when
Creek Robertson walked, stole second, moved to third on a balk and scored on Thigpen's sacrifice fly. The Choctaws extended their advantage to 3–0 in the sixth as Thigpen doubled and later scored on
Tyler Sanderson's single through the right side. Thigpen's double was one of three in the game, tying a season-high.
Â
The Choctaws broke the game open in the seventh with three runs. Williams and Murphy singled to start the rally before Robertson was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Thigpen drew a walk to force in a run and Langston followed with a two-RBI single to make it 6–0.
Â
AUM responded with two runs in the eighth on a Kurt Kizer single and added two more in the ninth, aided by a throwing error and a passed ball, but couldn't overcome the early deficit. Kizer paced the Warhawks with a pair of hits on the night. Huston Wynne (1-4) took the loss on the mound going 6.1 innings, allowing six runs on seven hits alongside a walk and four strikeouts.
