MONTGOMERY, Ala. — Mississippi College (12-10-1, 5-4 GSC) fell 3-0 to AUM (17-4, 5-4 GSC) on Saturday at the AUM Softball Complex.
The Choctaws were limited to four hits while AUM's pitching staff held MC scoreless in the Gulf South Conference matchup.
AUM struck first in the second inning when Reese Cauley launched a solo home run down the left-field line to give the Warhawks a 1-0 lead.
The Warhawks added to their advantage in the fourth. Karris Rhine delivered a two-run double to left-center, bringing home Rebecca Komers and Gracie Suggs to push the lead to 3-0.
Mississippi College threatened late but could not break through. Shelby Samples and Madelyn England recorded singles in the sixth to put runners on base, but the Choctaws were unable to convert the opportunity.
In the seventh, Megan Matheis doubled to left-center, but MC again came up empty as AUM secured the shutout.
Reagan Rios (3.0 IP) took the loss, allowing three runs on three hits with two walks and one strikeout. Camryn Bailey turned in a strong relief outing, tossing three scoreless innings while allowing two hits and striking out four.
Samples led MC offensively with two hits, while Matheis added a double and a walk. Blakely Gill contributed a stolen base.
Mississippi College returns to action next weekend at home with a Gulf South Conference series against Lee. The Choctaws will host a doubleheader on Friday, March 13 at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m., followed by the series finale Saturday, March 14 at 1 p.m.
