CLINTON, Miss. --- Cade Gadman delivered a walk-off single in the ninth inning to lift Mississippi College baseball to a 5-4 victory over No. 24 West Florida on Friday, Apr. 17 at Frierson Field. MC improved to 25-19 and 18-10 in Gulf South Conference play.
Â
The victory for the Choctaws is their sixth all-time in the series, that dates back to 2105, and the fourth on its home turf.
Â
Knotted at 4-all entering the bottom of the ninth,
Tyler Sanderson singled and was replaced by pinch runner
Nick Slonaker, who advanced to third on a throwing error. Gadman followed with a base hit up the middle to score Slonaker and give the Choctaws the win. It is the first walk-off hit since
JT Vance delivered against North Georgia on Feb. 7, 2025.
Â
MC capitalized on three West Florida (31-12, 17-11 GSC) errors and overcame a late rally by the Argonauts, who scored twice in the top of the ninth - including a run on a passed ball - to even the game.
Â
Dylan Cope (4-0) picked up the win on the bump, tossing the final inning in relief, facing three batters and getting them to ground out.
Â
UWF struck first in the opening inning when Zack Stokes scored on a double by William Lybrook. The Choctaws answered in the second as
Alex Johnson hit a solo home run to right field to tie the game. It marked the second homer of the week for the Albertville, Ala., native.
Â
MC took the lead in the fifth when Murphy walked, moved to third on
Jake LaRocca's double and scored on
Tyler Sanderson's single. The Choctaws added two more runs in the sixth, taking advantage of a fielding error before Murphy delivered a two-run single to make it 4-1. Sanderson recorded a pair of hits in the contest while
Ty Murphy drove in two runs.
Â
The Argonauts chipped away with an unearned run in the seventh and completed their comeback attempt in the ninth before MC answered in its final at-bat.
Â
Caleb Peterson started for the Choctaws, allowing two runs - one earned - on five hits over 6.1 innings while striking out six and walking six.
Â
The teams continue their series on Saturday. First pitch is 12 p.m. with Senior Day recognitions preceding the contest.
