Choctaws Clinch GSC Berth as Home Slate Closes Against West Florida

CLINTON, Miss. — Mississippi College softball closed out its 2026 home schedule over the weekend, falling in a three-game Gulf South Conference series to West Florida at the MC Softball Complex.

The Choctaws dropped Friday's opener before falling in both games of Saturday's doubleheader to finish the weekend 0-3. MC now sits at 25-19-1 overall and 15-12 in GSC play, having lost four straight.

Despite the sweep, Mississippi College officially clinched a berth in the upcoming Gulf South Conference Tournament on Saturday. With Union suffering a loss, the Choctaws secured their postseason spot by holding a six-game lead in the standings with just six games remaining, while also owning the head-to-head tiebreaker.

In Saturday's opener, MC battled offensively but could not overcome a big inning from the Argonauts, falling 7-3. The Choctaws recorded 11 hits and pushed across two late runs in the seventh inning, highlighted by RBI singles from Ellie Fryar and Morgan Lavergne.

West Florida completed the sweep with a 4-1 win in the finale, scoring three runs in the opening inning and limiting MC's chances the rest of the way. Mississippi College managed just one run despite putting traffic on the bases throughout the contest.

Friday's opener saw the Choctaws plate multiple runs in the middle innings, but West Florida's offense proved too much in an 11-5 decision.

While the results didn't go their way, the weekend featured a memorable moment for one of MC's veterans. Senior pitcher Cam Bailey recorded the final strikeout of her career at the MC Softball Complex, closing the book on her home career in fitting fashion.

Mississippi College wraps up its home slate with a 12-8 record in Clinton.

The Choctaws will return to action next weekend, traveling to Cleveland, Miss., for a three-game GSC series against Delta State to close out the regular season.
