CLINTON, Miss. --- Mississippi College right-hander
Cooper Cooksey has been named the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association South Region Pitcher of the Week following his dominant outing in the Choctaws' 14-1 victory over Valdosta State.
Cooksey fired a complete game, allowing one run on four hits over 7.0 innings while striking out a career-high 12. His strikeout total ranks among the top single-game performances in the Gulf South Conference this season and was the highest recorded over the weekend. The Waveland, Miss., native limited the Blazers to just one extra-base hit and faced little sustained pressure throughout the start.
Cooksey is the first Choctaw to earn NCBWA South Region Pitcher of the Week honors since
Holland Townes on March 18, 2025, and adds the national recognition to his Gulf South Conference Pitcher of the Week award.
