MONTICELLO, Ark. --- Mississippi College baseball collected eight hits and showed flashes of offensive production, but a power surge from Arkansas-Monticello proved decisive in a 10–3 loss Tuesday, Apr. 21 at Union Bank Park.
The Choctaws (26-21) tallied four doubles and put together multiple scoring opportunities, highlighted by multi-hit efforts from
Cade Gadman and
Ty Murphy. Gadman continued his strong stretch at the plate with two hits, including a double, and added a stolen base, while Murphy delivered two hits, a double and an RBI for his second straight multi-hit performance.
MC found its rhythm in the middle innings. After being held scoreless through four frames, the Choctaws broke through in the fifth when
Creek Robertson crossed the plate on a ground out and Gadman later scored on an error to cut the deficit to within a run.
JT Thigpen added another run in the sixth, scoring on a wild pitch, and also contributed a double as part of MC's extra-base production.
UAM (29-15, 23-7) answered with timely power, using three home runs to regain control. The Boll Weevils plated five runs in the fifth inning, including a three-run blast, and added a pair of runs in the sixth to extend the margin.
On the mound,
Blake Gollott (3-1) struck out four over four innings in his start, while
Brady Ray added two strikeouts in relief.
Colin Jones provided a solid inning out of the bullpen with two strikeouts, and
Carter Wells closed out the game for the Choctaws.
MC returns to action on Friday, Apr. 24 as it travels to Cleveland, Miss., for Gulf South Conference action and tournament seeding. First pitch at Delta State is 6 p.m.
