MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Mississippi College (24-14-1, 14-7 GSC) edged past Christian Brothers University (7-27-1, 2-19 GSC) with a 4–3 victory at Bland Field. The Choctaws' offense was highlighted by a home run and a total of nine hits, securing the narrow win and completing the sweep of CBU.
Christian Brothers took the lead in the third inning when Mackenzie Gieseler doubled to right center, driving in Mandie Barrow to make the score 1–0.
The Blue and Gold responded in the fourth inning with a two-run homer by
Blakely Gill, bringing in
Morgan Lavergne. However, Christian Brothers answered back with two runs of its own, including an RBI double by Dakota Davis, bringing the score to 3–2 in favor of Christian Brothers.
MC tied the game in the fifth inning with a single by Gill, which allowed Lavergne to score, leveling it at 3–3.
The Choctaws took a decisive lead in the seventh inning.
Shelby Samples singled and advanced to third on a double by Gill.
Megan Matheis then hit a sacrifice fly to score Samples, making it 4–3.
The Blue and Gold held Christian Brothers scoreless in the final inning to secure the victory. The final score was Mississippi College 4, Christian Brothers 3.
Reagan Rios pitched 3 2/3 innings, allowing six hits and three earned runs while striking out three batters. She threw 97 pitches, with 61 being strikes, and posted a WHIP of 2.19.
Grace Wallis followed with a solid relief appearance, pitching one inning, giving up one hit, and maintaining a WHIP of 1.00.
Camryn Bailey closed the game with 2 1/3 innings of work, striking out two and allowing just one hit, achieving a WHIP of 0.95 and securing the win.
Blakely Gill led with a standout performance, finishing with three hits, including a home run and a double, and driving in three runs.
Shelby Samples contributed significantly with two hits and scored once, maintaining a 1.000 OPS.
Morgan Lavergne scored twice and reached base through a walk and a hit by pitch, demonstrating her ability to get on base.
