CLINTON, Miss. — Mississippi Christian University dropped a 6-0 decision to No. 5 Dallas Baptist on Saturday at Robert P. Longabaugh Field.
The Patriots (1-0-0) scored early and never relinquished control, taking a 5-0 lead into halftime before adding another goal in the second half.
Dallas Baptist opened the scoring in the second minute when Ashley Washburn found the back of the net. Emma Croley followed with a goal in the sixth minute, while Riley Olsen and McKenna Vela added goals to push the Patriots' advantage to 4-0 by the 18th minute.
Kenzi Tufts scored late in the opening half, with Skylar Belanger providing the assist, as Dallas Baptist carried a five-goal advantage into the break.
Mississippi Christian goalkeeper Brynn Hedberg kept the Choctaws within striking distance with several saves during the opening half. The Lady Choctaws looked to create opportunities of their own, with Jaylen Bodry forcing a save from Dallas Baptist goalkeeper Leslie Miller. Olivia Graham and Kerri O'Hara also recorded shots for MC.
Dallas Baptist added its final goal in the 64th minute when Croley scored her second of the match off an assist from Tufts.
The Choctaws continued to battle offensively in the second half, with shots from Cooper Holmes and Jadyn LoBue-Holzer, but neither attempt found the target.
Hedberg finished with eight saves while facing 29 shots from the Patriots. Bodry recorded MC's lone shot on goal, while Graham and O'Hara each added one shot.
Mississippi Christian falls to 1-1-0 on the season.
The Lady Choctaws return to action Thursday, Sept. 3, traveling to Edmond, Oklahoma, to face Oklahoma Christian. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. CT.
