Bodry Scores Twice as Choctaws Draw Union

CLINTON, Miss. — Jaylen Bodry scored twice in the first half, but Mississippi Christian settled for a 2-2 draw with Union (Tenn.) on Saturday at Robert P. Longabaugh Field.

The Choctaws (3-1-1, 0-0-1 Gulf South Conference) held a 2-1 lead at halftime and outshot Union 17-8 for the match, including a 9-3 advantage in the second half.

Bodry opened the scoring with a penalty kick at 14:39 before adding her second goal at 20:44 to give the Blue and Gold a 2-0 advantage.

Union (0-3-1, 0-0-1) answered with a penalty kick from Rebekah Jackson at 23:34, cutting the deficit to 2-1. Mississippi Christian carried the lead into halftime despite Union earning three corner kicks in the opening 45 minutes.

The Choctaws continued to create chances after halftime, opening the period with corner kicks at 46:50 and 49:40. Bodry, Paula Catalan and Lillie McCutchen each recorded shots during the early second-half pressure.

Kerri O'Hara put a shot on goal in the 63rd minute, while Brinnslee Picard forced a save in the 69th. McCutchen added another attempt in the 73rd minute as MC continued to pressure the Union defense.

Union eventually found the equalizer in the 83rd minute when Jackson scored off an assist from Ebba Detulleo, tying the match at 2-2.

The Choctaws had opportunities to regain the lead late. Abby Badurak's shot hit the top of the woodwork at 85:37, followed by another O'Hara attempt less than a minute later, but neither team found a game-winning goal.

Bodry led Mississippi Christian with four shots, including two on goal, and converted her lone penalty-kick attempt. Badurak added three shots, including one on goal, while McCutchen recorded three shots.

Brynn Hedberg played all 90 minutes in goal for the Choctaws and made two saves.

Mississippi Christian returns to action Wednesday, Sept. 16, hosting Valdosta State at 1 p.m. at Robert P. Longabaugh Field in Clinton.
