CLINTON, Miss. — Mississippi Christian played Christian Brothers to a 1-1 draw Wednesday at Robert P. Longabaugh Field in Gulf South Conference play. The Choctaws finished with an 18-5 advantage in shots, including a 9-4 edge in the second half, while both teams recorded four shots on goal.
Abby Badurak put the Choctaws in front just 2:19 into the match, scoring off an assist from Karah Boydstun. MC continued to create chances throughout the opening half, with Jaylen Bodry, Badurak, Olivia Graham and Lillie McCutchen among those testing the Christian Brothers defense.
The Choctaws carried the 1-0 lead into halftime after holding Christian Brothers to just one shot in the opening 45 minutes.
MC continued to apply pressure early in the second half, earning two corners in the opening seven minutes and creating chances from Aidyn Hagan and McCutchen. Christian Brothers found the equalizer in the 70th minute when Frida Bergqvist scored to make it 1-1.
The Choctaws pushed for a go-ahead goal late, earning three corner kicks in the final six minutes. Michelle Melancon had a shot saved in the 72nd minute, while Cooper Holmes put another attempt on frame in the 89th minute, but Christian Brothers goalkeeper Kaylee Allen made the save to preserve the draw.
Bodry led MC with five shots, while Badurak finished with three shots and one shot on goal. Boydstun recorded one assist, and Paityn Settlemires played all 90 minutes in goal and made one save.
The draw moves MC to 4-2-2 overall and 1-1-2 in GSC play, while Christian Brothers moves to 1-6-1 overall and 0-3-1 in conference play.
The Choctaws return to action Saturday, traveling to Lee University for a 1 p.m. conference matchup in Cleveland, Tennessee.
