Charles Watson Jr. Joins Mississippi College Football Staff

CLINTON, Miss. --- Mississippi College athletic director Mike Jones and head football coach John Bland are pleased to announce the addition of Charles Watson Jr. to the staff as a defensive line coach.

"Charles is an outstanding up-and-coming coach that has a lot of promise and potential in this profession," said defensive coordinator Tony Gilbert. "He's a man of high character that has served his country and he loves the game of football. That's a great combination."

Watson will serve as the defensive line coach for the 2019 season and will be a part of the staff for spring practice.

Watson has served as a defensive line coach at three previous coaching stops, including Coyle High School (Okla.), Hamburg High School (Ark.) and Victoria East High School (Texas).

After serving two years in the United States military, Watson went on to walk on as a defensive tackle at Arkansas State University. He was a part of two Sunbelt Conference Championship teams and two bowl wins under head coaches Gus Malzahn (now at Auburn) and Brian Harsin (now at Boise State).

Charles and his wife Scarlett have a son, Darien. Charles earned his Bachelor of Science in Physical Education with a minor in History from the University of Arkansas-Monticello.
