Choctaws Notch Five Indoor Personal Bests at Crimson and Gold Invitational

PITTSBURG, Kansas --- The Mississippi College men's indoor track and field team opened the 2021 season with five collegiate, indoor, personal bests, including a NCAA Division II provisional mark at the Crimson and Gold Invitational hosted by Pittsburg State University.
 
Evan del Rio posted a provisional mark in the 3,000 meters as he took fourth in the event with a time of 8:20.23. The time was an indoor PR for the Huntsville, Texas, product. He added a second PR in the 5,000 as he clocked-in with a 14:55.05 in fourth place.
 
Teammate Gabe Poulin finished fifth in the 5000 with a time of 15:06.26 while Cole Benoit was ninth with a time PR of 15:26.77. Poulin also finished seventh in the 3000 with a time of 8:46.71.
 
The Choctaws picked up a pair of PRs in the shot put as well. Al Ferrill recorded a distance of 15.06m to take fourth in the event while Damon Wright recorded a toss of 14.23m for eighth in the event. Ferrill also finished 10th in the weight throw with a distance of 13.70m.
 
Daviciea McCartney won the men's long jump as he recorded a distance of 6.88m in the event. Zach McManus took eighth in the event with a leap of 4.72m. Jake Russell took bronze in the mile as he posted a time of 4:19.47.
 
Will Grames claimed fifth in the 200 meters and seventh in the 400 meters. He posted a time of 22.44 in the 200, while teammate Fabio Palmieri was seventh in the event with a time of 22.48, and clocked a time of 49.78 in the 400.
 
Mississippi College returns to action on Friday, Jan. 22 as it travels to Birmingham, Ala., for the first of two Samford Invitationals. The two-day event concludes at the Birmingham Crossplex on Saturday, Jan. 23.
 
 
Mississippi College is a private Christian university located in Clinton, Mississippi with an enrollment of over 5,000 students. MC recently finished their transition process back to NCAA Division II and the Gulf South Conference and began competing for conference and national championships in the 2016-17 academic year.
 
The athletic department sponsors 18 intercollegiate athletic programs: Baseball, Men's and Women's Basketball, Men's and Women's Cross Country, Football, Men's and Women's Golf, Men's and Women's Soccer, Softball, Men's and Women's Tennis, Men's and Women's Indoor Track & Field, Men's and Women's Outdoor Track & Field and Volleyball.
