CLINTON, Miss. – Mississippi College track & field delivered another strong weekend across two meets, competing at the UAH Rocket City Invitational and the Georgia Tech Invitational, highlighted by multiple school records, NCAA provisional marks and conference-leading performances.
UAH Rocket City Invitational
Mississippi College turned in a balanced performance in Huntsville, led by a school record in the throws and several NCAA marks on the track.
In the women's discus, Rebekah Zweerink broke the Mississippi College school record with a personal-best 44.87 meters (147 feet, 3 inches). The mark ranks No. 1 in the Gulf South Conference this season.
On the track, Matias Vasquez recorded an NCAA provisional mark in the men's 400-meter hurdles, running a season-best 52.17, which ranks 17th in NCAA Division IIand among the top marks in the GSC.
In the middle-distance events, Samuel Hodson delivered a standout performance in the men's 800 meters, running a personal-best 1:49.33. The time meets the NCAA provisional standard, ranks 22nd nationally, and moves him to No. 2 all-time at Mississippi College, while sitting second in the Gulf South Conference.
Mississippi College also captured several event victories. James Miller won the men's hammer throw with 55.75 meters (182 feet, 11 inches), while Mallory Dial took the women's high jump title with a season-best 1.68 meters (5 feet, 6 inches).
On the track, Catherine Wallace finished second in the women's 1500 meters in 4:39.82, and Tristan Jusino-Lansing captured the men's 110-meter hurdles in 14.41.
The Choctaws added multiple podium finishes across the meet. In the men's hammer throw, Jacob Keesee placed second with 55.62 meters (182 feet, 6 inches), while Steven Conrad finished third with a personal-best 51.94 meters (170 feet, 5 inches), ranking third in the GSC and fifth all-time at MC.
On the women's side, Keva Thomas placed third in the hammer throw with a personal-best 46.68 meters (153 feet, 2 inches), moving to third all-time at MC.
In the distance events, Baxter Friedman recorded an NCAA provisional mark in the men's 3000-meter steeplechase, running a personal-best 9:10.20, which ranks fourth in the GSC and fifth in program history.
Mississippi College also saw strong performances from Elyse Dorris, who placed second in the women's 100 meters after running a personal-best 11.91 in the prelims and Alana Green, who finished third in the final. Elyse backed this performance up with a personal best time of 24.90 to finish third in the 200m.
Additional highlights included Ethan Belcher clearing a personal-best 4.58 meters (15 feet, 0¼ inches) in the pole vault, and a runner-up finish from the women's 4x400 relay(3:56.85) along with a second-place finish from the men's 4x400 relay (3:13.61).
Georgia Tech Invitational
The Choctaws continued their momentum in Atlanta with two standout distance performances that produced school records and national marks.
Bre Bell delivered one of the top performances in Division II this season in the women's 3000-meter steeplechase, winning the event in a personal-best 10:30.14. The mark is an NCAA provisional qualifier, breaks the Mississippi College school record, and ranks ninth in NCAA Division II and first in the Gulf South Conference.
In the women's 1500 meters, Lauren Wallace continued her record-breaking season, running a personal-best 4:21.92to set another Mississippi College school record. The performance ranks tenth in Division II.
Mississippi College also added a podium finish from Christian Balcer, who placed third in the men's 1500 meters with a time of 3:45.66.
