Volleyball Eighth in NCAA Division II South Regional Rankings

INDIANAPOLIS --- With the second installment of the NCAA Division II Regional Rankings out, the Mississippi College volleyball team sits eighth in the South Region, as announced by the association on Wednesday, Nov. 2.

MC (22-5, 11-3 Gulf South Conference) made program history last week as it appeared in the initial rankings as one of the top 10 teams in the region. The Choctaw are one of three teams in the GSC to make the regional rankings. The University of West Florida is fifth followed by the University of Montevallo in 10th.

The top eight programs in the region, including the three conference champions from the region, advance to the South Regional Nov. 17-20 with the regional winner moving on to the NCAA National Championship Dec. 1-3 in Seattle, Wash.

With one weekend remaining in the regular season, MC has wrapped up a berth in the GSC Tournament in Pensacola, Fla., and received a first-round bye as it has claimed a top four seed. It is the third straight conference tournament bid for the program under the leadership of head coach Shawna Laurendine and its 13th overall.
