Mississippi College Honors the Late Don Skelton

CLINTON, Miss. --- Former Mississippi College baseball players from the around the southeast returned to campus on Saturday, March 26 for the inaugural Baseball Alumni Day.

Baseball alumni gathered together on the grounds of Dickins-Scoper Stadium, Frierson Field, prior to the Choctaws doubleheader with 14th-ranked Valdosta State University, to meet, greet and fellowship with one another, former teammates and past Choctaws alike.

Prior to the start of the action on the diamond between MC and the Blazers, alumni joined the late Don Skelton's family on the Frierson Field turf to honor the former Choctaw coaching legend. Coach Skelton's son, Don "Bubba" Skelton received the honor of throwing out the ceremonial first pitch. The family was then surprised with the proclamation of March 26, 2022 being named "Don Skelton Day".

"We had a great day visiting and reminiscing with former Choctaw baseball players today and the opportunity to recognize and honor the late Coach Don Skelton," said Mississippi College Director of Athletics Kenny Bizot. "We are very appreciative of the Skelton family and what they have meant and continue to mean to MC. We would like to thank for Bubba for throwing out the first pitch today in honoring his dad. It was a great day to be a Choctaw."

Following the ceremony, alumni joined in the attendance as the Choctaws split the doubleheader with the nationally-ranked Blazers as MC claimed the second game of the day, 9-5, to force the series-clinching contest on Sunday, March 27. First pitch of the series finale is scheduled for 1 p.m.
