BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Mississippi College Track and Field has the distinct honor to announce Al Ferrill and Essence Tornabene as the Gulf South Conference (GSC) Men's and Women's Field Athletes of the Year, respectively. This announcement comes on the heels of a phenomenal season where both athletes displayed remarkable prowess and tenacity on the field.

Al Ferrill, with his stellar performance throughout the season, has emerged as a shining beacon in Mississippi College Track and Field. His journey, which can only be described as Hollywood-esque, has seen him claim the GSC Field Performer of the Meet at both the GSC Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field Championships. His accolades include the USTFCCCA South Region Field Athlete of the Year Award in Indoor Track and Field. Ferrill shattered four school records and secured four GSC individual titles and a runner-up individual title. Moreover, he earned NCAA Division II provisional national qualifying marks in three distinct events this season, setting a precedent of excellence for the generations to follow.

Essence Tornabene, on the other hand, capped off her impressive senior season with a flourish, bagging three GSC medals, breaking four school records, and earning two NCAA Division II national qualifying provisional marks. Essence's remarkable achievements are a testament to her relentless dedication and discipline, traits that have made her a true embodiment of sporting excellence.

Both Ferrill and Tornabene's contributions have been instrumental in creating a formidable, national-caliber throws squad. Their combined performance has brought home a staggering eight GSC medals and shattered 14 school records in both indoor and outdoor track and field in the throwing events alone.
