CLEVELAND, Tenn. --- Mississippi College's track and field team carried their momentum into day two of the 2023 Gulf South Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships, adding five more podium finishes to their already impressive showing.
In the Men's Discus, Al Ferrill and Jake Keesee made a powerful statement by landing on the podium. Keesee, in particular, secured his first-ever GSC podium finish in his college career, further solidifying the Mississippi College team's depth and talent.
Timothy Young also found success Men's Long Jump, responding to the competition with a major leap in the final flight of jumps, ultimately clinching a well-deserved bronze medal.
In the running events, Jan Lukas Becker showed why he is a force to be reckoned with, securing his fifth GSC title in the Men's 5,000-meter run. He dropped a blazing 2:06 800m in the middle of the race to challenge his competition and ultimately run away from the field in a GSC meet record-time of 14:13.2.Â
Lady Choctaw Lauren Wallace also added to the team's impressive haul by securing a podium finish in the Women's 5,000-meter run. She clinched the bronze medal in a time of 17:32.2, which was also under the old GSC meet record.Â
Other notable competitors who contributed to the team's success on day two including Sakari Faulkner in the Women's Discus and Jazmin Hernandez in the Women's 5,000-meter run. They all played a critical role in ensuring that Mississippi College's track and field team continues to dominate and strive for more success as the 2023 Gulf South Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships progress.
The third and final day of competition will be Saturday, May 6, with action starting at 10:00 AM E.T. in the Men's Shot Put and Men's Pole Vault.Â
