JACKSON, Miss. --- Mississippi College Track & Field showcased their prowess and made history at the 2024 Belhaven Invitational held at Belhaven University on Saturday, March 23. The Choctaws delivered several stellar performances, securing numerous program top-10 marks and claiming multiple event wins.
TOP 10 MARKS:
The Mississippi College men's throws squad popped off with several top-10 program marks. Among the standouts was
Brodie Ezell's impressive performance in the Men's Discus, where he secured the No. 9 all-time mark for the program with a throw of 44.35m (145-06).
Jake Keesee soared to the No. 2 all-time spot in the Men's Hammer with a remarkable distance of 52.81m (173-03), closely followed by
James David Miller at No. 4 with 51.77m (173-03), and
Bryan Puckett at No. 7 with 44.60m (146-04). Lastly,
Matthew Coleman asserted his dominance in the Men's Javelin, claiming the #4 all-time mark with an exceptional throw of 63.13m (207-1).
In the women's events,
Taylor Benoit clocked an impressive time of 4:36.02 in the Women's 1500m, securing the No. 3 all-time spot, while
Emily Berry claimed the No. 5 all-time mark in the same event with a time of 4:41.56.
Bre Bell showcased her talent in the Women's 800m, securing the No. 8 all-time spot with a time of 2:20.10.
Hilary Udechukwu blazed through the Women's 200m with a time of 24.99, earning the No. 5 all-time ranking, while
Maddie Flugence showcased her talent in the Women's 100mH, securing the No. 7 all-time spot with a time of 15.72.
EVENT WINS:
The Choctaws continued their dominance with notable event wins, including
Niklas Klei's victory in the Men's 400m with a time of 47.05 and
Gabe Hodson's impressive performance in the Men's 800m, where he led a sweep of the top three positions.
Lauren Wallace made it a Choctaw sweep in the 800m events, claiming victory in the Women's 800m.
Braedon Methvin broke the tape in the Men's 1500m, leading another sweep of the top two spots, while
Oliver Ollesch has an incredible debut in the Men's 400 mH with a winning time of 56.59.
The team's success extended to the field events, with
Jake Keesee securing victory in the Men's Hammer and
Matthew Coleman dominating the Men's Javelin. Additionally,
Nicole Morris secured victory in the Women's Hammer, leading a sweep of the top two positions.
As the season progresses, Mississippi College Track & Field continues to excel, currently boasting 9 GSC #1 marks and 6 NCAA DII Provisional marks. With such impressive performances, the Choctaws are poised for continued success as they strive for excellence in every event they compete in.
