STARKVILLE, Miss. – Mississippi College track & field closed out the Mississippi State Bulldog Relays on Saturday with multiple event victories, school records and NCAA provisional marks to cap a strong weekend of competition.
Women's Track Highlights
Mississippi College was led by a dominant showing in the middle-distance events.
In the women's 800 meters, Lauren Wallace ran 2:10.32 to secure an NCAA provisional mark, ranking No. 1 in the Gulf South Conference and fifth in NCAA Division II. Teammate Taylor Benoit followed with a personal-best 2:10.65, also meeting NCAA provisional standards while ranking second in the GSC, seventh nationally, and second all-time at Mississippi College.
Wallace continued her strong day in the women's 1500 meters, winning the event in a school-record 4:24.20. The mark is an NCAA provisional qualifier and ranks No. 1 in the GSC and second in Division II.
Bre Bell added a podium finish in the 1500 meters, placing second in a personal-best and NCAA provisional time of 4:29.87, which moves her to second all-time at MC and third in the GSC.
In the distance events, Shana Sellers captured the women's 3000-meter steeplechase title in 11:28.02, ranking first in the Gulf South Conference.
Men's Track Highlights
On the men's side, Christian Balcer claimed the 1500 meters title in 3:51.98, a season-best performance that ranks third in the GSC.
The Choctaws also saw a strong showing in the 3000-meter steeplechase, led by Matthew Singletary, who ran a personal-best 9:17.42 to finish among the top performers while ranking second in the GSC and seventh all-time at MC.
Mississippi College placed two additional athletes on the podium in the steeplechase, with Baxter Friedman finishing second in 9:17.45 and Preston Speed taking third in 9:38.52, both recording personal-best marks.
Additional personal-best efforts came in the men's 1500 meters from Matthew Meadows (3:57.38) and Witt Kilgore (4:06.56).
Field Event Highlights
In the field events, Schyler Chambers led the Choctaws with a third-place finish in the triple jump, recording a mark of 15.05 meters (49 feet, 4½ inches). The jump meets NCAA provisional standards and ranks first in the GSC, seventh in Division II, and second all-time at Mississippi College.
In the pole vault, Jake McMillan cleared a personal-best 4.50 meters (14 feet, 9 inches), moving to seventh on the MC all-time list and tying for second in the Gulf South Conference.
In the throws, Matthew Coleman delivered another strong performance in the javelin, recording a personal-best 64.04 meters (210 feet, 1 inch). The mark meets NCAA provisional standards and ranks first in the GSC and 16th in NCAA Division II. Teammate Hayden Simmons added a personal best mark of 53.52 meters (175 feet, 7 inches), ranking sixth in the conference.
