Choctaw Volleyball Staff Additions

CLINTON, Miss. --- Mississippi College volleyball program announces staff changes as head coach Bentley Odom adds Anna Nelson as an assistant coach for the 2025 season.

"I am thrilled to add Anna to our staff," said Odom. "Her playing experience and technical knowledge of the game will be huge assets to our program. Her presence in Clinton has already been the biggest blessing and I cannot wait for her to get into the gym with our players this Spring."

Nelson brings knowledge of the area as she most recently served as an assistant coach at Brandon High School. She helped guide the Bulldogs to a 30-8 record, first place in Class 7A Region 3 and the semifinals of the state tournament. During this past season, Nelson honed her skills in front of the camera, as she was a broadcast analyst for the SEC Network during Mississippi State University broadcasts.

"I am grateful and humbled to step into this role," said Nelson. "I want to thank Kenny Bizot and Bentley for providing the opportunity and trusting me with building the future of MC volleyball. I am excited to continue the growth of family culture, while also empowering these young female athletes, which will prepare them for their lives post college. Last, but not least, I would like to thank God. None of this would be possible without Him."

Nelson began her collegiate career at Jacksonville State University, where she helped guide the Gamecocks to three consecutive, regular-season championships with two coming in the Ohio Valley Conference and one in the Atlantic Sun. While a member of the Red and White, she also served as a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and was a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

She received her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Jax State in December 2022 and has started her MBA at the University of Southern Mississippi.

The West Memphis, Ark., native has also been a part of the club volleyball scene, most recent as a head coach for Infinity Volleyball Academy in Ridgeland, Miss., Prior to her time in the Magnolia State; she assisted with the Mobile Storm Volleyball Club.

Joining Odom's staff along with Nelson will be former Choctaw standout, Ali Wiggins. The Enterprise, Ala., native concluded her collegiate career with the Blue and Gold, helping it to a fifth consecutive Gulf South Conference Tournament, advancing to the semifinals for the second time in program history.

Wiggins finished her career ranked in the top in career assists with 1,419. In the classroom, she was a three-time GSC Academic Honor Roll selection and two-time member of the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team.

Mississippi College finished the 2024 season with a 16-14 overall record and 13-7 in the GSC, earning the No. 3 seed in the tournament.
