Tennis Tests Early Form in Exhibitions at Jacksonville State

JACKSONVILLE, Ala. — Mississippi College men's and women's tennis opened the 2026 spring season Thursday with a pair of exhibition matches on the road against Jacksonville State at the Jax State Tennis Courts.

Men's Tennis

Mississippi College Choctaws dropped a 6–1 decision to Jacksonville State Gamecocks in the men's exhibition.

Jacksonville State swept doubles play to take an early advantage before winning five of six singles matches. Mississippi College's lone point came at No. 6 singles, where Florian Walcher earned a straight-sets win, 6–3, 6–3, over Matei Palcau.

Several Choctaws were pushed to extended matches, including Mattia Ricci at No. 2 singles and Simon Pfau at No. 4, both of whom forced third sets before falling.

Women's Tennis

The Mississippi College women were edged 4–3 by Jacksonville State in a tightly contested exhibition.

The Choctaws picked up an early boost in doubles as Emily Buchanan and Ann Cabot Stockett earned a 6–3 win at the No. 1 position. In singles play, Mississippi College claimed three victories, with Rune Van Wyk (No. 3), Anna Hudson (No. 4), and Stockett (No. 5) all winning in straight sets.

Jacksonville State secured the overall match by taking wins at Nos. 1, 2, and 6 singles.
