MOBILE, Ala. — Mississippi Christian (3-4-3, 2-2-2) defeated Spring Hill (0-6-2, 0-5-1) 1-0 on Wednesday in conference play at Library Field. The Choctaws recorded the shutout while holding Spring Hill without a shot on goal and finishing with a 14-4 advantage in shots. The visitors put 10 shots on frame and generated all nine corner kicks, then scored the lone goal in the second half after a scoreless first half.
The Choctaws created the first sustained pressure of the first half, earning three corner kicks from 9:04 to 12:41 before
Luke Nolan put a shot on frame at 15:39 and
Hayden Mulrooney missed high at 15:46. After another corner at 16:52,
Lian Feridani,
Gage Sorey,
Karim Gegg and Brody Tanner each had attempts by 25:43, with Jose Lozano Soto saving Sorey's 21:31 shot and team saves stopping Feridani and Tanner. MC continued to test the goal through Gegg at 32:47 and Sorey at 36:16, both saved by Lozano Soto, before Spring Hill sent two late attempts off target as the half ended 0-0.
MC put the first shot of the second half on frame at 50:23, when
Matheus Poubel had an attempt stopped by a team save, and the visitors followed with corner kicks at 56:21 and 57:08 before Spring Hill's first listed shot missed left. Feridani missed left at 59:46,
Harry McLean had a shot stopped at 64:43, and Feridani put another attempt on frame at 66:57 that Jose Lozano Soto saved before Gegg missed high in the 72nd minute. After Spring Hill's Brady Harty sent a shot wide right at 73:15 and the half moved through several fouls and cards, Mulrooney scored at 86:25 off
Hayden Thomas's assist to give the Choctaws a 1-0 lead, which held through 90:00 for the win.
The Blue and Gold created the bulk of the first-half chances, taking eight shots and earning six corner kicks while holding Spring Hill without a goal. The Choctaws pressed early with three corners in the opening 13 minutes and continued to create looks through the 37th minute. Spring Hill managed two shots late in the half, but both missed the target, and the teams went into halftime scoreless.
Mulrooney scored in the 87th minute off an assist from
Hayden Thomas, giving MC a 1-0 lead late in the second half. Earlier, the Choctaws created several chances, including
Matheus Poubel's shot in the 51st minute that required a team save, back-to-back corner kicks in the 57th and 58th minutes, and
Harry McLean's saved attempt in the 65th. Feridani added two shots, including one saved by Jose Lozano Soto in the 67th minute, as MC finished the half with six shots while allowing two. Spring Hill was whistled offside three times in the half, and the Choctaws held the 1-0 score through the final minutes to close out the match.
Mulrooney scored the game-winning goal and finished with two shots. Thomas recorded an assist. Santiago Dominguez played all 90 minutes in goal and posted a shutout. Feridani put two of his three shots on goal.
