BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Mississippi College senior James David Miller has been named the Gulf South Conference Men's Indoor Track & Field Field Athlete of the Week, the league office announced Wednesday.

Miller secured the honor following a record-setting performance at the UAB Invitational, where he placed third in the weight throw with an NCAA provisional mark of 18.52 meters (60 feet, 9.25 inches).

The throw made program history, as Miller became the first Choctaw to surpass the 60-foot mark in the indoor weight throw. His effort also moved him to the top of the NCAA Division II national performance list and the South Region rankings. Within the GSC, Miller leads the conference by more than three feet.

The weekly award marks the first of the season for Miller and adds to Mississippi College's growing list of conference honors during the 2026 indoor campaign.

The Choctaws continue their indoor season this weekend as they prepare for postseason competition later this month.
