NASHVILLE, Tenn. --- Mississippi College track and field turned in another statement performance Saturday at the Music City Challenge, highlighted by school records, provisional qualifying marks, and a wave of personal and season best performances as the Choctaws continue to surge late in the indoor season.
The women's distance group stole the spotlight, led by a pair of historic school record performances from Lauren Wallace and Bre Bell. These stellar performances represented the sixth and seventh school records broken by the Choctaw Track and Field team this indoor season.Â
Wallace delivered one of the top performances in program history, breaking the school record in the mile with a time of 4:43.84. The mark also earned a provisional qualifying standard, and she currently sits No. 1 in the Gulf South Conference and No. 6 in NCAA Division II. Not far behind, Bell produced another record-breaking run in the 3000 meters, running a personal-best 9:46.56—a four-second improvement that earned a provisional qualifying mark, set a new school record, and ranks her No. 2 in the GSC.
Taylor Benoit continued her strong indoor campaign with a season-best performance in the mile, clocking 4:57.13, which currently ranks her No. 5 in the GSC.
The women's distance medley relay added another major highlight, as the quartet of Bell, Mason, Benoit, and Wallace ran a season-best time of 11:43.97. The performance earned a provisional qualifying mark and now stands as the second-fastest DMR time in school history, further showcasing the depth and strength of the Choctaw distance squad.
On the men's side, Cooper Parmer continued his impressive season with a big personal record in the 3000 meters, running 8:26.40 to move into the No. 8 spot in the GSC rankings. Benji Hodson produced a major breakthrough in the 800 meters, running a personal-best 1:54.04, nearly two seconds faster than his previous best. Samuel Hodson also had a standout performance in the 600 meters, finishing fifth overall with a personal-best time of 1:18.50.
In the sprints, Matias Vasquez posted a season-best time of 49.06 in the 400 meters, while Braedon Methvin added a season-best in the 5000 meters at 14:48.46.
The men's distance medley relay also delivered a strong effort, as the group of Hodson, Hodson, Wrights, and Balcerran a season-best 10:02.49, ranking as the ninth-fastest DMR time in school history. Christian Balcer added a season-best in the mile at 4:16.47, while Matthew Meadows ran a personal-best 4:18.53.
With multiple school records, provisional marks, and conference-ranked performances, Mississippi College continues to build championship-level momentum. The Choctaws will now turn their full attention toward the GSC Indoor Track Championships in Birmingham, AL on February 19-20.Â
