CLINTON, Miss. — Mississippi College track and field collected three weekly honors from the Gulf South Conference following standout performances at the MC Spring Classic.
Distance runner Taylor Benoit was named the GSC Women's Track Athlete of the Week after winning the 5000 meters with a time of 16:58.56. Her performance set a new school record and improved her collegiate personal-best by 10 seconds. The mark currently ranks first in both the Gulf South Conference and all of NCAA Division II.
Junior Kennedy Thompson earned GSC Women's Field Athlete of the Week honors after strong performances in two throwing events. Thompson placed second in the discus with a mark of 41.27 meters and added another runner-up finish in the hammer throw with a personal-best mark of 46.37 meters. The hammer throw mark ranks as the second-best in Mississippi College history, while both performances place her atop the current GSC leaderboard.
On the men's side, freshman Brodie Roberts was named GSC Freshman of the Week after a breakthrough performance in the 100 meters. Roberts won the event at the MC Spring Classic with an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 10.29 seconds. The mark stands as the third-fastest in Mississippi College history and currently ranks first in both the GSC and Division II this season.
Mississippi College will return to competition Saturday, March 21, traveling to Jackson, Miss., for the Belhaven Invitational beginning at 10 a.m.
