CLINTON, Miss. --- Mississippi College baseball broke open a scoreless game with five runs in the fifth inning on its way to its third Gulf South Conference sweep of the season, toppling Valdosta State, 9-4, on Saturday, March 28.

The Choctaws (20-14, 14-7 GSC) collected 11 hits for the third straight game and took advantage of two Blazer errors to extend their home record to 17-4 and 11-1 in league games on its home turf.

Tyler Sanderson led MC at the plate, going 3 for 5 with two doubles, three RBI and two runs scored.
JT Thigpen drove in three runs, and
Ty Murphy added a hit and scored twice.

Coby Gollott (5-2) pitched six innings for the Choctaws, striking out seven and allowing four earned runs.
Dylan Cope (2) worked three scoreless innings in relief, striking out two to earn the save.

VSU (11-22, 8-13) struck first in the fifth on a two-run home run by Parker Ladd. MC answered in the bottom half, beginning with an RBI double by Sanderson.
Nick Slonaker followed with an RBI single, and
Creek Robertson doubled before Thigpen delivered a two-run single. An error and a sacrifice fly by Will
Langston capped the inning with the Choctaws holding a 5-2 advantage.

The Blazers pulled within a run with two runs in the sixth, but MC pushed the lead to 6-4 later in the inning when Sanderson scored after Thigpen reached on an error. The Choctaws added insurance in the seventh as Sanderson delivered a two-run double, and Slonaker drove in a run to grab the five-run lead.

MC returns to action on Tuesday, March 31 as it hosts Arkansas Tech. First pitch is at 3 p.m.
