MAGNOLIA, Ark. --- Mississippi College baseball produced a strong offensive showing, but a big early surge by Southern Arkansas proved too much to overcome in an 18-11 setback Tuesday, Apr. 14 at Walker Stadium in a game that featured 29 combined runs.
Â
The Choctaws (24-19) battled, highlighted by a six-run sixth inning that cut into the deficit.
Alex Johnson delivered the biggest swing of the night with a grand slam as part of a five-RBI performance, while
Ty Murphy added two RBI and multiple hits.
Jake LaRocca also homered and drove in a pair as MC out-hit the Muleriders, 14-13.
Â
MC briefly erased an early deficit with a two-run third inning and continued to apply pressure at the plate, but Southern Arkansas (22-18) answered with runs in seven of eight innings, including a five-run fourth fueled by three home runs.
Â
Preston Smith and Tate Elliott led the Muleriders' offense, combining for two home runs and five RBI, while Michael Herndon set the tone with a two-run shot in the first inning.
Â
Will Daniel (0-2) was charged with the loss for MC, as he was one of nine hurlers to take the mound in the game for visitors from the Magnolia State, and Jackson Regan earned the win in relief for Southern Arkansas.
Â
The Choctaws look to rebound on Friday, Apr. 17 as it hosts West Florida in the final, Gulf South Conference home series of the season. First pitch is 6 p.m.
