TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The Mississippi College women's tennis team continued its historic run Friday afternoon, defeating Valdosta State 4-0 in the Gulf South Conference semifinals at the Tuscaloosa Tennis Center.
With the win, the top-seeded Choctaws improve to a perfect 23-0 on the season and advance to Saturday's GSC Championship match.
Mississippi College secured the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3. The nationally ranked duo of Emily Buchanan and Ann Cabot Stockett earned a 6-3 victory, while Katharina Weber and Molly Bennett matched that score to clinch the point.
In singles play, MC wasted no time closing out the match. Rocio Martinez picked up a straight-sets win at No. 2 (6-2, 6-2), followed by Emily Buchanan's 6-0, 6-3 victory at No. 1. Ann Cabot Stockett sealed the match at No. 6 with a dominant 6-0, 6-0 performance.
Matches at Nos. 3, 4 and 5 were left unfinished.
Mississippi College will face for the GSC Championship on Saturday at 2 p.m. CT in Tuscaloosa.
On the men's side, the No. 5 seed Choctaws saw their tournament run come to an end with a 4-2 loss to top-seeded West Florida in the semifinals.
West Florida claimed the doubles point with wins at No. 1, while Mississippi College answered with victories at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles.
In singles, the Argonauts secured four courts to clinch the match. Mississippi College picked up its two points from Matias Ruiz at No. 3 and Simon Pfau at No. 2.
The Choctaws move to 16-7 overall and will now await their postseason fate in the upcoming NCAA South Regional selection.
