No. 1 Mississippi College Blanks Adelphi, Advances to NCAA Division II Elite Eight

SURPRISE, Ariz. — The No. 1-ranked Mississippi College women's tennis team opened the NCAA Division II National Championships with a dominant 4-0 victory over No. 16 seed Adelphi University on Tuesday morning at Surprise Tennis & Racquet Complex.

With the win, Mississippi College improves to 26-1 overall and advances to the NCAA Division II Elite Eight for the first time in program history. The Choctaws will face Columbus State University in the national quarterfinals on Wednesday at 6 p.m. CDT (4 p.m. Mountain Time).

Mississippi College secured the doubles point with convincing wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions. Anna Hudson and Rocio Martinez earned a 6-3 victory at No. 2 doubles, while Rune Van Wyk and Katharina Weber cruised to a 6-1 win at No. 3 doubles.

The Choctaws carried that momentum into singles play, winning all three completed matches in straight sets.

Van Wyk was first off the court, rolling to a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Sara Lindeman at No. 5 singles.

Hudson followed with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Oline Solevåg Halvorsen at the No. 4 position.

Weber clinched the match for Mississippi College with a 6-4, 6-2 triumph over Roisin Boyd at No. 3 singles.

The remaining three singles matches were left unfinished.

Mississippi College enters Wednesday's quarterfinal matchup against Columbus State with a chance to advance to the national semifinals for the first time in school history.
